The Collections Management course taught by Zoology Collections Manager Dr. Jackson Roberts recently took a field trip to the far southwestern edge of the FHSU University Farm.
After spending a semester talking collections' practices and philosophy, it was time for a true Farm-to-(prep)Table experience collecting reptiles and amphibians. They had a very successful collecting trip.
In only two hours, they found a Prairie Rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis), a few dozen Ringneck Snakes (Diadophis punctatus), a beautiful Western Milksnake (Lampropeltis gentilis), a Six-lined Racerunner (Aspidoscelis sexlineatus), a few Great Plains Ratsnakes (Pantherophis emoryi), a Racer (Coluber constrictor), and plenty of fossils and deer bones.
What a way to wrap up Dr. Roberts' first year teaching here at the Sternberg!
