Darwin Day Lecture Series
Darwin Day is a celebration held annually on Feb. 12 to commemorate the birthday of Charles Darwin and his contributions to the theory of evolution by natural selection. Darwin is often touted as the “Father of Evolution” because he discovered and popularize the theory of Natural Selection.
Natural Selection is the process by which organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and reproduce more than those less adapted, leading to changes in the characteristics of populations over time. Darwin Day serves as an opportunity to recognize Darwin's groundbreaking work on evolutionary biology and to promote science, education, and critical thinking.
This year, the Sternberg Museum is celebrating Darwin for more than just a day. Check out our social media platforms for lots of Darwin-related information (Facebook/Instagram: @SternbergMuseum; X/Twitter: @FHSU_Paleo). And on Thursday, Feb. 22, join Sternberg Museum researchers at a special lecture series on how they use the Museum’s collections to study evolution. It’s a month of celebration as we prepare for the Museum’s 25th anniversary event on March 15.
